“Leonov sketches Belyayev during a postflight vacation on a Black Sea beach.”
okay?
(seriously, though, Alexei is a very good artist, and it is cool that he’s drawing his buddy. But…those hats?)
Yuri thinks they’re cool:

Pavel Belyayev, commander of Voskhod 2, in which Alexei Leonov made the first spacewalk. Some trivia: Belyayev was the oldest member of the first cosmonaut selection in 1960 at 34 years old. The rest were mostly in their mid to late 20’s. The youngest was Valentin Bondarenko.

Happy Birthday to Alexei Leonov today! He is a veteran of two historic flights: aboard Voskhod 2 in 1965 he became the first to go on a spacewalk, and as part of the Apollo-Soyuz Test project in 1975, the symbolic end to the space race. He is also known for his beautiful paintings of space scenes.

Family portrait Alexey Leonov, Soviet cosmonaut, 1965.
Photographer unknown.
They even hung a picture of Yuri Gagarin.
Those are definitely Leonov’s daughters, but why is Pavel Belyayev sitting there and not Leonov? Or is he just an extension of the family since they were on Voskhod 2 together?
