On the 3rd of November, 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first “manned” aircraft. Sputnik II’s sole passenger was Laika, a dog who had the honor of becoming the first living creature to enter space. Despite Soviet statements claiming she lived for several days, it was released in 2002 that Laika died a few hours after launch.
I’m attempting to read Nick Abadzis’ graphic novel Laika in between school work. It’s quite good and so far has been historically accurate.
